Scripture:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6–7 (NKJV)
Truth to Hold On To
Uncertainty can be one of the hardest places to stand. We long for answers, for clarity, for a glimpse of what’s ahead, but often God asks us to walk step by step, not knowing the full picture. Yet in those in-between moments, He offers something the world cannot give: peace.
Jesus promised His disciples: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27 (NKJV).
This isn’t the kind of peace that depends on circumstances being calm. It’s a supernatural peace that settles the heart even when the storm still rages. Isaiah declared: “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” – Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV).
The key to peace is focus. When our eyes are on the uncertainty, fear grows louder. But when our eyes are fixed on Jesus, peace floods in. “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NKJV).
Where This Gets Real
The year 2020 began with a diagnosis I never expected, “Cancer”. While the rest of the world would soon face lockdowns, I was already on one before COVID ever hit. Doctors’ appointments, treatments, and the unknown stretched out before me. My body was weak, my future felt uncertain, and I couldn’t see how it was all going to unfold.
But in that season, God met me with His peace. Philippians 4:6–7 became my lifeline. Every time anxiety rose, I would bring it to Him in prayer, and I truly experienced the peace of God guarding my heart and mind.
What struck me most was that His peace didn’t depend on good news from a doctor or the lifting of restrictions. His peace came in the middle of the uncertainty. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV).
I entered 2020 with cancer, but I also entered it with the unshakable presence of Jesus. That peace became my anchor in one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
Prayer
“Lord, thank You that You are my peace in every season of uncertainty. Help me turn my eyes away from fear and fix them on You. Guard my heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses understanding, and remind me daily that You are with me, no matter what tomorrow holds.” In Jesus name, amen.
Reflection Question
When I face uncertainty, do I usually focus more on my circumstances or on God’s promises? What would it look like for me to shift my focus this week?
Challenge
Every time worry rises this week, stop and pray Philippians 4:6–7 out loud. Then take a deep breath and declare Isaiah 26:3:
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” – Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)
