Scripture:“For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’” – Daniel 4:34–35 (NKJV)
Truth to Hold On To:
Trust becomes stronger when we remember God is sovereign. That means He rules over everything, nations, leaders, seasons, circumstances, and even the details of our daily lives. Nothing surprises Him, nothing is beyond His reach, and nothing can overturn His plan.
Scripture reminds us: “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all.” – Psalm 103:19 (NKJV).
Sometimes life feels out of control. The world around us shifts, people make choices we can’t control, and situations leave us uncertain. Yet God’s Word assures us that His sovereignty is steady: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV).
Recognizing His sovereignty doesn’t mean we’ll always understand what He’s doing. It means we choose to rest in His wisdom and timing. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8–9 (NKJV).
Where This Gets Real:
The events of this past week shook many of us. News spread that Charlie Kirk was assassinated, and suddenly the fragility of life and the volatility of our times became painfully clear. Moments like this remind us that we live in a fallen world where evil still seeks to silence truth and create fear.
But God’s Word assures us that no act of man can overrule His sovereignty. Leaders may rise and fall, tragedies may come unexpectedly, but His throne is unshaken. What shocks us never surprises Him. Even in heartbreaking loss, God’s kingdom still advances and His plans remain unshaken.
And we’re already seeing that. In the wake of this tragedy, many people are turning to the truth of Jesus Christ. The very attempt to silence truth is causing hearts to awaken to the only One who cannot be silenced. What the enemy meant for evil, God is using for good, drawing people to salvation and reminding the Church that our hope is not in man but in Christ alone.
In times like this, Proverbs 19:21 speaks louder than ever:“There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel, that will stand.” (NKJV)
Though the world feels unstable, we anchor ourselves in the truth that His dominion is everlasting. This does not mean we won’t feel grief, fear, or questions, it means we have somewhere solid to bring them. Jesus remains the same yesterday, today, and forever, and His kingdom cannot be shaken.
Prayer:
“Lord, thank You that You reign over all things. Even when I don’t understand what You are doing, help me to trust that You see the full picture. I release my plans into Your hands and choose to rest in the truth that You are sovereign, wise, and good.” In Jesus name, amen.
Reflection Question:
How does remembering God’s sovereignty help me face tragedies that shake the world?
Where in my own life do I struggle to recognize His rule, and how might recalling His unshaken throne bring me peace today?
Challenge:
This week, every time you feel anxious about something outside your control, declare Psalm 103:19 out loud:
“The Lord has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all.” – Psalm 103:19 (NKJV)
And don’t stop there ~ share Jesus with someone who feels shaken. Let them know there is only one unshakable foundation: Christ. In a world searching for answers, be bold to point to the hope of His everlasting kingdom.
