Scripture:“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” – James 1:5 (NKJV)
Truth to Hold On To
Trusting God means not only leaning on His sovereignty but also learning to seek His guidance. Life is full of decisions, some small and some life-altering, the way we respond determines our path forward.
God promises that when we ask Him for wisdom, He will give it. “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.” – Isaiah 30:21 (NKJV).
The Holy Spirit is our Counselor and Guide. Jesus said: “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” – John 16:13 (NKJV).
Sometimes His guidance comes as a whisper in prayer, other times through Scripture, and often through circumstances that He uses to point us in the right direction. The key is to pause, ask, and listen.
Where This Gets Real
When my youngest daughter was little, she was sick so often that I knew something wasn’t right. Yet the doctor I took her to assured me that nothing was wrong. Deep in my heart, I knew they were missing something. As a mother, I could sense it.
I began praying for God’s wisdom, asking Him to reveal the truth. One day, while sitting in a classroom at a homeschool co-op, I overheard another parent talking about their child’s struggle with wheat and gluten. Something inside me leapt, I knew it was the Lord highlighting that conversation.
That moment led me to research celiac disease. The more I learned, the more her symptoms made sense. Finally, with persistence and the right testing, we received the diagnosis: celiac disease. It was an answer that completely changed her health and quality of life.
Looking back, I see so clearly that it was God’s guidance. He gave me a mother’s discernment, put me in the right place at the right time, and led me to the answer that doctors had overlooked. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV).
Prayer
“Lord, thank You that You never leave me without guidance. Teach me to pause and listen for Your voice in every situation. Help me to trust that You will direct my steps, even when the way seems hidden. Open my ears, my eyes, and my heart to recognize Your leading.” In Jesus name, amen.
Reflection Question
What situation am I facing right now where I need God’s specific guidance? Have I truly paused to ask and listen for His direction?
Challenge
This week, take one area where you need wisdom and pray James 1:5 daily. Write down any nudges, Scriptures, or confirmations God brings, and trust Him to show you the next step.
